About ICS Avon
Welcome to Kingsway Christian School!
At its most fundamental level, Kingsway Christian School in Avon, IN, exists to glorify Jesus Christ through faith-inspired learning and leadership. To put it more plainly, we desire to partner with parents and the Christian community as together we cultivate within our students a love for God, for learning, and for others.
Our History
Kingsway Christian School was established in 1977 as a ministry of Kingsway Christian Church.
It was the dream of Jan Caldwell, the wife of Kingsway’s first Senior Pastor John Caldwell, to start a Christian school where her children and others could receive an excellent, Christ-centered education.
The school opened with two teachers and 25 students in first through fourth grades. Today, we have over 50 full- and part-time teachers and staff and over 600 students in preschool through eighth grade, as well as before and after school supervision.
More than a student
Kingsway sees much more in their students than a mind that needs to be filled. Instead, we believe that the individual student bears the image of God and is of immeasurable worth. Like our Creator, we are a wonderful unity, knit together in diversity. Our teaching, therefore, is holistic in its approach, engaging and developing each facet of the individual (spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, physical, moral, etc.).
More than a teacher
Each teacher at Kingsway is not only a credentialed member of the educational community, but has a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. They are committed to the craft of integrating faith and learning, demonstrating how God’s truth permeates all aspects of life and every content area. If nothing else, we want our students to see and experience a greater love for Jesus and His world through our words, our actions, and our attitudes.
More than a school
Kingsway is much more than simply a school building. It contains a vibrant network of families that are committed to the task of raising the next generation in the fear and the knowledge of Jesus Christ, equipping them to grow in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and with men. We are committed to this end and to each other as we venture out with this noble calling.
2022-2023 Statement of Faith
Indianapolis Christian School System believes in several vital biblical teachings.
1. God – There is one living and eternal God who has revealed himself as a trinity in unity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is three persons but one God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; Corinthians 8:6)
2. The Bible – Both the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God, sufficient for our knowledge of salvation and godly living – “a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.” (Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21)
3. The Church – The body of Christ on earth, which exists to: bring glory to God, reach the world with the message of salvation, and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
4. Humanity and Sin – We believe that humankind was created, male and female, in the image of God. We believe that humankind fell through sin and that, as a result, sin and death entered the world, corrupting every aspect and experience of humanity, rendering each individual spiritually dead and totally depraved in their nature. We also believe that all humanity is therefore separated from God and wholly without hope apart from God’s grace (Gen. 1:26, 2:17; 6:5; Ps. 14:1-3, 139:1-16; 51:5; Jer. 17:9, 64:6; John 3:6, 6:35; Romans 3:10-19, 23, 6:23, 8:6-7, 1 John 3:8).
5. Forgiveness – Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. (John 3:16; Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:7)
6. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-11).
7. Salvation – Those accepting Christ must repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into him. Those God saves should continue to grow in him, investing their lives for his glory. (Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9; Ephesians 2:10; 2 Peter 3:18)
8. Eternity – Jesus Christ will one day return for his followers, spending eternity with them and reigning as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Those who have rejected his offer of salvation will enter into a Christ-less eternal judgment. (1Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Revelation 17:14)
9. We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female, and that these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis 5:2) We believe that God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one biological man and one biological woman, and that sexual activity is to occur exclusively within that marriage covenant (Genesis 2:24; Ephesians 5:25).
The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Indianapolis Christian School System’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our School Board of Directors are the School’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
