Acknowledging God’s Design
At Indy West Christian School, we believe that each child is wonderfully and fearfully made by God, uniquely gifted to fulfill His divine purpose. We recognize that with these God-given gifts come individual strengths and areas for growth.
Our Mission
To glorify Christ through faith-inspired educational support by embracing learning differences. The Student Services Program (SSP) provides a variety of programs, targeted interventions and enrichment, and multi-tiered teaching methods to meet the academic and spiritual needs of students.
Our Vision
In partnership with families and teachers, SSP equips students to become confident, independent learners who understand their God-given gifts and pursue excellence in learning and leadership — all to the glory of Christ.
Our Framework
Indy West Christian School’s SSP operates from a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. MTSS is a research-based framework used by schools to provide the right level of support for every student. Its purpose is to ensure all students have what they need to succeed—academically, behaviorally, and socially. MTSS uses a tiered model of support, offering different levels of help based on each student’s needs. By identifying challenges early and responding with targeted interventions, MTSS helps educators support students more effectively and promote success for all learners.
Program Services
Literacy Intervention Support
Early literacy intervention is a vital component in ensuring the success of students in the classroom. Each fall, our interventionist looks at all the NWEA standardized test scores of our first and second grade students. Based on those scores and additional teacher recommendations, the interventionist meets one on one with each student to gauge his or her literacy level and needs. If a need is present to ensure success in the classroom, the interventionist will place students in leveled groups for student-centered academic intervention. Kindergarteners are recommended for intervention after the first semester. If the interventionist sees a substantial need for remediation, it will begin in January. Students in third, fourth and fifth grade are included in intervention when the student exemplifies a severe literacy deficit as schedules permit.
The intervention program utilizes several programs to aid in student success. Intervention sessions typically occur three times per week. The program used most frequently for Literacy Intervention is 95% Group. Evidence-Based Literacy Solutions | 95 Percent Group
Mathematics Intervention Support
Early mathematics intervention is also a vital component in ensuring student success. Our interventionists utilize early NWEA data along with teacher recommendations to gauge what students need further academic intervention in math. Using standards-based approaches and intervention kits from our curriculum (Savvas EnVision & Bridges Intervention) students meet in small groups for remediation.
Multi-Lingual / English Learner Intervention Support (ML/EL)
Our ML/EL interventionist plays a vital role in supporting ML/EL students by strengthening their English language skills for classroom learning. We also love celebrating cultural traditions and events from both the United States and around the world. Our priority is to help English Language Learners grow in their speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities. Additionally, we strive to foster a school-wide understanding and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds and experiences our English Learners bring to our community. This program is based upon enrollment data and a screening process provided by the state of Indiana.
Social/Behavioral Intervention Support
Based upon referral by teacher, in some cases our students will take part in social skills and/or emotional regulation groups led by our interventionists.
Higher Ground
This enrichment class for high ability is by school invitation only and must have parental input. Students in grades 3-8 who have accepted into Higher Ground meet once a week and are challenged in critical thinking and logic skills with a Christian worldview emphasis. Students will be inspired to discover personal strengths, leadership, and life skills they need for academic and career success through discussions, public speaking, design presentations and debate.
The overall goal of our Student Services Program is to get each student to a level at which they can learn in the classroom more independently.
